Hackney needs all the talents

“Hackney Council has been a one party state for too long. I will approach members of ALL non-racist parties to serve as Cabinet members.”

Cabinet members have to be drawn from those members who are elected as Councillors. Currently, four parties are represented on the Council and I see no reason why all the skills and experience in those parties shouldn’t be put to good use.

What happens if all the talent is in one Party? And then what about non-executive functions and the harnessing all the talents for the invaluable scrutiny functions of the Council. Maybe ignorance of the purpose of O&S or the scrutiny commissions doesn’t inform this blog? I highly recommend attending the business of the Council.

Having met the members of all the parties I don’t think that is the case. Party battles on entrenched positions tend to obscure common-sense.
There are going to be some severe economic pressures on Hackney over the next few years and I don’t think all the answers are going to be in one place. Independent scrutiny is determined by the Council, not the Mayor.
